Paintings with a Biblical Theme

January 5, 2017

I  am an ordinary being, but in the Holy Spirit I am blessed as an artist who paints, sketches and crafts. I can't remember when I  started to call on the Holy spirit before starting on any project - be it small or big. As a Sunday School catechist, the best lesson plans are inspired by Him. And it surprises me each time that an idea comes out of the blue, rather I should say out of the Spirit and at times so quickly, so effortlessly. I cannot in my creative life, or rather my life, ever think of separating from Him. He is my Art-guru, my ideas-man, my partner in art. Yes, there are struggles  and challenges but everything falls into place and works out well. I tell my kids at Sunday School to call on the Holy Spirit for helping them in studies, and also tell my son whose has to be creative all the time because his job demands it.

Recently,  I created a few paintings with a biblical theme. While painting one of them, I was struck with a bout of Illness and was wondering how I could finish it before the deadline. But surely God has His ways, he doesn't let me down. Not only did I finish much before time, I was also happy with the result.

I delight in creating watercolor paintings based on the Holy spirit. It helps me express my own spirituality and my connect with God.

I was inspired to make some lovely Christmas-themed paintings, hand painted magnets and Christmas decorations for sale at a Christmas bazaar depicting the Holy family, Angels, Madonna and Baby Jesus. Here I played with colours and textures to portray  the joy, peace, hope and love of Jesus - the light of the world. I almost gave this a miss due to a sudden surgery, but a friend inspired me to go ahead, counting on the Lord and asking Him to show the way. I enjoyed this experience of bringing out the true spirit of Christmas, the coming  of our Lord. The response to these spirit-inspired paintings was so good, it motivates me to paint some more. And you will not find my initials at the right corner of the paintings, but HSI. (Holy Spirit inspired) Because it is always He who inspires.
